ABE/GED PROGRAM

We have a highly dedicated, trained staff to instruct and assist you in raising your literacy levels, and preparing you to take the GED Test.

Before anyone can enter the Education Program, they will go through a day of orientation where they will be administered the CASAS Placement Test. This will determine your current educational skill level and enable us to place you in the proper class.

We offer 2 tracks of classes within the program: Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED Fast Track for those students testing at the advanced level on the Placement Test.

The Social Services program offers direct service on an individual basis to any family or individual in need. This program has the following components.

  • Emergency Food Assistance – The center distributes nutritionally balanced food packages to low-income families and individuals. This service is offered to our clients once a month Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:30 am on a walk in basis, Thursday and Friday referrals are required.
  • Clothing Distribution – The clothing room is open Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. We offer an assortment of seasonal clothing for children and adults including shoes and outer wear. Thanks to the generous donations from individuals and others we are able to provide this service to our clients.

The Recreation Center offers youth a safe haven from threats roaming the streets and provides the children a place where kids can be kids.

Youth Education Program – (Teen Room): The mission of the Educational Program is to positively impact the lives of our children in a manner that leaves them empowered and confident. Tutoring and other enrichment activities are provided to students every day. Workshops and Trainings on Job Readiness and sessions on dressing for success, telephone etiquette and interviewing skills are also offered. In order to better meet the needs of the participants we operate this program at the community center from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The program will begin at 9:00 AM during the summer months.

Recreational Activities – (Social Room & Game Room): Our recreational activities enforce our social skills education. These activities allow children an opportunity to demonstrate their excellent manners, respectful demeanor, good communication skills, as well as teamwork. Children and youth also have an opportunity to participate in our Safe Haven Program, Movie Night and age appropriate games and activities. In order to meet the needs of the community we operate this program at the center from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Recreational activities will begin at 9:00 AM during the summer months.

All families and individuals have problems that sometimes turn into struggles that affect your whole life and family. Our professionally trained therapist l help individuals and families deal with these problems in effective ways by providing support, education, intervention and prevention services to parents and children to help reduce the current problems and prevent future impairment.

The mission of the Education Program is to positively impact the lives of our children in a manner that leaves them empowered and confident. We provide homework assistance for students at all grade levels. The Education program includes:

  • Tutoring - After school enrichment for an average of 15–20 students per day
  • Computer Lab – The lab provides students with access to the internet for research as well as monitored recreational activities
  • Workshops– We offer trainings on Anger Management, Dressing for Success, Interviewing Skills, Job Readiness, Substance Abuse, and Telephone Etiquette.

To support our efforts in providing cultural and social events youth are taken on various trips local and abroad. These trips are designed to expose the children to life outside of their norm and to stimulate their minds in such a way to incite focus and determination in breaking the cycle.

Our youth have participated in the Travis Smiley Youth Leadership program as well as a China Education Program where the students spend 5 weeks in China. Other trips include skiing, go-karting, camping, bowling, College Tours local and away and much, much more.
